SBS to rely on NEXIO XS server
Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) has selected the Harris NEXIO XS HD/SD shared storage transmission server system for coverage of the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
The event, held in Doha, Qatar, Dec. 1-15, will mark the first time SBS will use a server-based production system to broadcast a live event. The system configuration includes six NEXIO XS servers with 36 channels — 12 for ingest and 24 for playout — and two VelocityNX HD/SD promotions craft editors. Integrated into the NEXIO SAN, VelocityNX enables editing of native HD and SD content directly from the NEXIO shared storage architecture.
At the 2006 Doha Asian Games, the NEXIO XS system will be used for ingest and recording, which will later be extracted and trimmed for sports highlights.
The NEXIO XS system will run in PAL SD for the games. Upon their conclusion, SBS will use the system in Seoul to broadcast HD programming.
