Scientific-Atlanta Launches Explorer 4200 Set-Top
Scientific-Atlanta is introducing its Explorer 4200 Home Gateway, a digital set-top designed to support wired and wireless connectivity to a variety of media and Internet devices with Scientific-Atlanta's interactive digital network.
The Explorer 4200 can deliver a range of entertainment, information and communications services. It features an internal DOCSIS modem, high-performance graphics and a memory interface. It can deliver digital interactive services such as on-demand TV, Web browsing and t-commerce, and allows users to access network data through the DOCSIS pipe. It includes two USB ports and an Ethernet port, and can link to PCs, PDAs, phones and other Internet appliances.
The DOCSIS modem uses the DOCSIS forward path, which can provide high-speed Internet access. The modem also provides a faster out-of-band path for interactive applications compared with the DAVIC OOB path.
The Explorer 4200 is expected to begin shipping in September 2002. It replaces S-A's Explorer 4100.
