SGL unveils defragmentation module for Flashnet
Software Generation (SGL) has added defragmentation to its SGL FlashNet archive management suite.
The module will let broadcasters maximize media usage of their digital tape and DVD libraries. In any broadcast facility, when files are deleted from tape or DVD, gaps remain with data scattered.
Using SGL FlashNet, broadcasters can now set their own limits on how much media waste is acceptable. When the media reaches a predetermined low capacity point, due to deletion, the valid content is moved from tape or DVD, updating the SGL FlashNet database to point to the data's new location.
When tapes no longer contain any valid material, they become reusable for re-writing, maximizing storage.
