Shure offers supercardioid version of iconic 55 vintage microphone

Shure has introduced the new Super 55 Deluxe vocal microphone. Introduced 70 years ago, the original Shure Unidyne gained fame as one of the world’s first single-element unidirectional microphones. Shure has taken the iconic 55SH body, in production since 1951, and dropped in a new supercardioid capsule, adding royal blue internal foam to upgrade both the look and performance of the mic while retaining its retro-cool look. The resulting model is the Super 55 Deluxe mic. The Super 55 offers a high-output, vocal-friendly sound, supercardioid polar pattern and a robust shock mount.

While incorporating new technology inside, the Super 55 offers a thoroughly modern feature set, including a vocal-tailored frequency response, increased sensitivity and robust internal shock mount. The chrome-plated, diecast steel housing remains the same, while the blue foam pays homage to the original models.

The new Super 55 augments the cardioid 55SH Series II, which is still available. Both carry a two-year limited warranty.
