Siano and Vishay unveil UHF antenna chip for mobile TV applications
Siano Mobile Silicon and Vishay Intertechnology this month unveiled one of the world’s smallest UHF antenna chips, designed to support multiple mobile TV formats. The RFW8021 (Vishay)/SMS8021 (Siano) chip allows mobile TV device makers to base their designs on an antenna chip no larger than a typical small integrated circuit, eliminating the need for a long telescopic antenna to be attached to the handset.
The passive RFW8021/SMS8021 chip, applicable for all mobile TV technologies deploying the UHF spectrum band, including DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T, MediaFLO and China's DMB-T, supports a bandwidth range of 470MHz to 870MHz at high gain. Measuring 15mm x 10mm x 1.2mm, the omnidirectional chip is mounted directly on the internal PCB, with soldering pads similar to any other chip in the phone. Target applications include mobile phones, portable multimedia players, notebooks and UMPCs and accessory cards.
Shipment will begin next month, as part of Siano’s mobile TV receiver product line.
