Sony expands XDCAM HD product line
Sony expanded its XDCAM HD Professional Disc system with new models to strengthen the optical disc workflow at NAB2007.
The new models include the PDW-F355 camcorder, the PDW-F75 deck and the PDW-U1 drive unit, as well as the PFD50DLA, a new dual-layer 50GB optical disc.
The PDW-F355 camcorder uses a 1/2in imager and delivers 24P genlock capabilities out of the HD-SDI output, for multicamera shoots, as well as the ability to downconvert with edge cropping. The new dual-layer 50GB Professional Disc also supports longer record times.
A live and play function allows users to do clean, live switching between camera output and playback of pre-recorded content.
The PDW-F75 deck and the new dual-layer 50GB Professional Disc media offer greater recording capabilities and more long-term archiving options.
The deck supports DVCAM recording through an SD baseband input with the use of the PDBK-104 option board connected to an SD-SDI or composite input. The PDW-F75 also supports SD closed-captioning, and has an additional REC select menu, which can be triggered through the HD-SDI input for video assist applications.
The new XDCAM PDW-U1 drive has single- and dual-layer disc capabilities and offers read and write functions. This external drive works with both the XDCAM SD and HD systems.
Sony plans to ship the new products in September.
