Tandberg To Debut HD Encoder at NAB
Tandberg is introducing a new HDTV encoding platform at NAB2003.
Built on the same platform as its E5720 SD encoder, the ATSC/DVB-compliant E5780 encoder is especially adept at managing bandwidth in traditionally bandwidh-intensive applications, including digital cinema and digital dailies. In addition, a new module to make the E5720 MPEG-2 encoder HD capable, is also being introduced as well as the TT1280 HD 4:2:0 receiver/decoder. Taken together, Tandberg is targeting the platform to broadcasters for applications ranging from contribution feeds from outdoor broadcast events to network distribution feeds to affiliates.
The E5780 is expected to ship by Q3, 2003 and will feature improved processing power. It also includes the SMPTE 332 standard for embedding closed captioning into the vertical ancillary space of HD SDI signals for digital daily applications and bit rates of up to 90 Mbps. The second phase of the encoding platform release is scheduled for Q4 and will add, via software upgrade, 4:2:2 encoding capabilities and statistical multiplexing of both HD and SD signals.
