Telegent Systems, Konka Group to deliver handsets with free-to-air TV
Telegent Systems and Konka Group, a manufacturer of mobile phones and TV sets, announced at last week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, a partnership to deliver mobile handsets featuring free-to-air TV.
Konka is using Telegent’s TLG1100 single-chip mobile TV receiver to enable the mobile TV feature on the handset. Designed specifically for mobile environments, it supports NTSC, PAL and most worldwide FM standards and can deliver a stable picture at speeds of up to 430km/h. The handsets are expected to begin shipping globally during the second quarter of 2008.
Telegent Systems is one of the few semiconductor manufacturers in the world to offer chip receivers designed to pick up terrestrial analog signals for mobile TV services. It designs chips for digital mobile TV standards such as DVB-H, but feels it is important to give operators and broadcasters the ability to offer mobile TV using existing analog infrastructures and signals.
