Thales Notes Datacasting Success
Southwick, Mass.-based Thales, touting the success of its OPAL IP Encapsulator, says its current customer list reinforces the need for digital data broadcasting tools. The more than 1,000 OPAL IP's are currently being used for satellite, cable and terrestrial broadcast customers in the U.S. including PBS, Raytheon, Globecomm, Aloha Networks, BitCentral, GlobeCast America and Marshall Communications Corporation.
OPAL lets users offer data services over any DVB or ATSC network and targets broadcasting Internet or data files within the ATSC and DVB MPEG-2 transport streams. OPAL includes IP filtering management; multi-user remote configuration and supervision; analysis of upstream network traffic; and bandwith, Statistical IP and Opportunistic Data Insertion.
