Thomson to unveil mobile set-top box
Thomson will unveil the DTI0601, a mobile set-top box with integrated antennas and LCD screen, designed to receive digital terrestrial broadcast channels in multiple environments at IBC2005.
The DTI0601 not only functions as a standard set-top box, but also operates as a portable system for use in the home or elsewhere and as a personal picture and sound system in cars, city buses and other mobile situations.
For consumers, this mobile set-top box will lead to a new entertainment experience. Used as a standard set-top box either connected to the main TV set or to another set in the home or elsewhere, it allows users to enjoy digital terrestrial broadcast without the need for any external antenna connections. Perhaps of even more interest, is its mobile functionality that enables users to watch live digital terrestrial programming.
For operators, this new mobile set-top box creates new revenue opportunities through its appeal both to existing and potential viewers. Support for integrated Conditional Access, will also enable operators to offer pay TV services via a SIM card slot in the future.
