Triveni Digital CTO to address inner workings of DTV at IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program
Triveni Digital’s CTO, Rich Chernock, will be a speaker at the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program at the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society (BTS) Montreal Chapter. Scheduled for Oct. 21 at Concordia University, Chernock's lecture will address DTV technology and incorporate tutorials explaining the inner workings of DTV and MPEG-2 transport, in particular with respect to broadcast, cable, DTH and IPTV services. Chernock also will discuss strategies for efficient DTV monitoring and for cost-effective entry into mobile TV delivery.
Chernock is active in many of the ATSC and SCTE standards committees, particularly in the areas of metadata, monitoring and data broadcast. Within ATSC, he is the chairman for a number of ad hoc committees whose work relates to metadata and transport issues. He is vice chairman of the Technology Standards Group and chairman of non-real-time services and mobile/handheld management layer activities within ATSC. He is also a participant in the SCTE HMS activity.
"Though North America has transitioned to DTV broadcasting, members of the industry continue to face challenges posed by the complex technologies and standards underlying this shift," Chernock said. "The emergence of new opportunities, such as mobile DTV, further complicates the broadcast landscape; however, with an understanding of DTV fundamentals and transport mechanisms, broadcasters are better equipped to maintain a high-quality broadcast today and to launch new revenue-generating services tomorrow."
Introduced by the IEEE BTS, the Distinguished Lecturer Program provides society members with opportunities to enhance their professional knowledge and vitality and to stay informed of the latest research results and their practical applications. The Montreal event is sponsored by IEEE BTS, IEEE Montreal and Concordia University.
