Utah Scientific Makes 3 Gbps Routing Standard

All high-definition configurations of the Utah-400, the flagship routing system from Utah Scientific, will include a 3 Gbps switching capability as a standard feature at no extra cost, the company announced.

With 3 Gbps switching in every router, users are now able to handle all video formats, including SD and HD formats up to 1080p, from within the same system, Utah Scientific said.

The company also announced the availability of a 3 Gbps optical I/O option for the Utah-400 routers. CEO Tom Harmon said Utah Scientific has been working with Ontario, Canada-based Gennum to bring the 3 Gbps optical solution to market.

“With the integration of Gennum’s new 3 Gbps optical module, Utah Scientific can deliver a complete copper and optical solution at 3 Gbps,” said Gary Beauchamp, senior vice president and general manager of the optical products division at Gennum.
