PBS member station WVUT, of Vincennes University, in Vincennes, IN, has upgraded its NVerzion automation with a second channel. WVUT’s signal (Channel 22) covers the Wabash Valley of southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois with local programming that includes a student-produced newscast that airs during school year.
Prior to 2002, WVUT relied on a manual master control operation staffed by the university’s broadcasting majors and department staff. The school recognized that the students needed exposure to an automated master control system to better prepare them for their careers in radio, TV and allied career fields, with hands-on, real world experience to ensure their students were highly marketable in a competitive field. It was also determined that an automated master control would be a great asset to the staff, enabling the station to broadcast its schedule more economically, with fewer personnel and a lesser demand for department constant staff supervision.
Because operators first installed an NVerzion system in 2002, they returned to NVerzion for help with a full hardware upgrade in 2007, and in August 2009, the station called on NVerzion again to add a fully automated second channel. WVUT now relies on four NVerzion solutions including the NTime event scheduler; NGest frame-accurate dub station software; NPoint to preview, trim, segment and create new subclips from existing clips on WVUT’s video server; and two NControl/MC automated master control systems.
WVUT also installed programming and traffic software from BroadView as part of the upgrade.
