BBC News shakes up television news department
The head of BBC television news is taking several steps to reflect the increasing importance of News 24 in the BBC's overall strategy and to create a streamlined, flexible and dynamic news operation.
According to BBC TV news chief Peter Horrocks, the changes are aimed at putting continuous news “at the heart” of the organization’s operations and to position BBC to “embrace new technologies” and fulfill “new audience needs” when it comes to watching and accessing news.
The moves include several personnel appointments, including the creation of a new position of Controller of News 24, which will have editorial, managerial and financial control over the channel.
