DiskStream intros video archiving solution

Capsa improves access to archived media content and eliminates the high cost, inefficiency and inconvenience inherent in videotape archiving.

Making its industry debut at NAB, DiskStream unveiled Capsa, a cost-effective, turnkey video archiving solution for media entertainment.

DiskStream said Capsa is a system for file-based archiving of video content including broadcast news, commercials and other programming. Tailored to the needs of small market broadcasters and specialty channels, Capsa improves access to archived media content and eliminates the high cost, inefficiency and inconvenience inherent in videotape archiving.

Until now, the majority of broadcasters have had no alternative to tape because existing file-based archiving products have been too expensive and too complex, the company said.

The manufacturer said Capsa combines archive media management functionality with cost-effective mass-market storage and server technologies, all within a single appliance. It automatically archives video content and other files on near-line SATA storage or offline data DVDs.

Media files are submitted to archive through a network file copy. Archived material remains accessible through a Google-like search, low-resolution preview and single-click restore — all from the user's desktop.

Capsa is available immediately, with pricing starting at less than $30,000. It is available in 2.0, 6.0 and 12.0 TB near-line storage configurations with optional DVD robot for offline archiving.
