FCC responds to Hurricane Katrina
The Office of Engineering and Technology and the International Bureau of the FCC have implemented procedures to help emergency communications services resume and maintain operations in the areas destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Emergency requests for special temporary authority (STA) may be submitted by informal letter and e-mail or, if necessary, by telephone. Applicants also may file requests electronically through the Experimental License Filing System.
STAs for satellite, earth and space stations or submarine cables and international 214s may be submitted by letter, e-mail or telephone also. Applicants may file requests electronically through the International Bureau Filing System (IBFS) at http://svartifoss2.fcc.gov/myibfs/welcome.do. The Bureau may grant STAs for up to 30 days.
