NCTA names new president

Kyle McSlarrow, a deputy Secretary of Energy and a former Senate aide, has been named president and CEO of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), effective March 1. He will succeed Robert Sachs as the cable industry’s chief lobbyist.

A former candidate for Congress in Virginia’s 8th Congressional District, McSlarrow also served as deputy chief of staff and chief counsel to former U.S. Senators Bob Dole (R-KS) and Trent Lott (R-MS) when each served as Senate Majority Leader; and as chief of staff for the late U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell (R-GA).

McSlarrow, an attorney, has worked in private practice in Washington, DC, on environmental and energy litigation, and he served as assistant to the General Counsel of the Army while in the U.S. Army. He earned degrees from Cornell University and the University of Virginia School of Law.

The appointment of McSlarrow concludes a six-month national executive search. Sachs, who announced last year his intention not to seek renewal of his contact at the conclusion of his term, will complete his service February 28.
