NFL discusses new home for “Monday Night Football”

“Monday Night Football” may find a new home in 2006 on ESPN. The item was on the agenda at the NFL’s annual meeting in Maui this week.

ABC has until the end of October to negotiate exclusively with the league to reach a new deal. The network has carried “Monday Night Football” for 36 seasons.

ABC reportedly loses an estimated $150 million a year on its production of “Monday Night Football.” Moving the show to Disney-owned ESPN could change the financial equation.

The NFL already has deals in place with FOX and CBS for Sunday game day coverage and ESPN for Sunday night games, as well as DIRECTV for direct satellite distribution.
