Optrex exhibits automotive information display at Convergence 2004
Optrex America demonstrated a range of new flat-panel solutions for the growing number of informational and entertainment displays in today’s and tomorrow’s vehicles at Convergence 2004, held last month in Detroit.
As a player in the flat panel display (FPD) technology space, Optrex exhibited OEM displays for various segments of the automotive interior that use the company’s advanced flat panel display modules, including LCD and OLED.
Optrex also exhibited an array of OEM instrument clusters displaying speedometer, odometer, rpm, gas gauge, temperature and other driver information in a variety of character and graphic formats. The OEM displays demonstrated at Convergence reflected Optrex’s broad array of LCD technologies, including thin film transistor (TFT), ASTN and very high contrast (VHC), as well as the sizes and ranges of colors available from Optrex LCDs for the automotive OEM.
To help OEMs meet the expanding demand for in-vehicle info-tainment systems, Optrex also demonstrated OEM displays for car radio and audio systems, in-dash GPS navigation systems, climate control systems and more, all using the company’s extensive range of LCD technologies.
New organic light emitting diode (OLED) modules being developed by ADEON, a joint venture between the Tokyo-based Optrex and Nippon Seiki, also were displayed at Convergence in instrument clusters from the Chevrolet Corvette and Jeep Cherokee. This marked the first use of OLEDs in automotive original equipment instrument panels.
To address the problem of glare in daytime driving, Optrex has been working closely with automotive OEMs to develop sunlight-readable displays. Optrex manufactures 6.5in, 8.4in and 12.1in diagonal LCDs using a special anti-reflective (AR) surface treatment. Displays featuring this AR capability were also exhibited at Convergence.
