ABC Sports and ESPN will use Sportsvision’s RACEf/x during its coverage of IndyCar Series races this year.
ABC Sports and ESPN will use Sportsvision’s RACEf/x technology to provide viewers with driver identification and crucial data during their coverage of all 2006 IndyCar Series races, including the Indianapolis 500.
RACEf/x is intended to connect the audience with drivers by providing viewers with the same information about the performance of cars as drivers and their crews receive. It provides viewers with graphic effects and relevant data, enabling them to better follow the action. The technology along with the global positioning system (GPS) will track every car while delivering a broad array of visual effects, making it easier for viewers to identify each driver. A pointer graphic identifies the cars and tracks them as they race at speeds in excess of 220 miles per hour.
Viewers can also customize their experience by tracking real-time data of any car competing in the race when following the race live on ESPN.com, beginning with the Indianapolis 500.
The on-board GPS system captures all telemetry and positioning, including speed, acceleration and deceleration, time behind the leader, exact car position and engine RPMs. The system will incorporate several data elements unique to Indy Racing League coverage, including G-force, which will indicate the force exerted on the driver.
The RACEf/x system will debut during the 2006 IndyCar Series season-opening race, the Toyota Indy 300, March 26 on ABC Sports.
