Scripps deploys OmniBus automation as platform for HD/SD playout
The Scripps Networks has installed an OmniBus automation system at its Knoxville, TN, broadcast headquarters. The new automation solution will support Scripps Networks' standard networks including Great American Country (GAC), as well as two new services — HGTV HD and Food Network HD — being launched this spring.
All its networks are being migrated gradually from an aging automation system to the new OmniBus automation system. With systems integration, testing, and training complete, the Scripps broadcast facility also is prepared to commence playout of the company's two new HD network services.
The OmniBus system controls a video server system, acting as a file server, and a hierarchical storage management archiving system. The new playout infrastructure enables easy launching of both SD and HD channels, and it will scale easily to meet the demands of Scripps' network growth.
