Telewest deploys Entone's VOD servers
Entone’s StreamLiner provides multiple streaming formats and the ability to scale storage and streaming capacity independently.
UK broadband communications and media group Telewest has selected and deployed a complete StreamLiner network video recorder (NVR) architecture from Entone Technologies. The unit will serve as the playout solution for the Barker Channel on Teleport, a new TV-on-demand service.
Scheduled to launch to more than a million digital TV customers nationwide by early 2006, Teleport already serves 26,000 viewers in the Cotswolds section. Using Entone’s video server platform, the Barker Channel delivers interactive promotional trailers of available and upcoming films.
The Teleport Barker Channel is delivered as a single and continuous output from video servers installed at Woking, Surrey and Knowsley, Merseyside. The Entone StreamLiner solution supports playout of any pre-encoded content selected by the operator.
StreamLiner provides levels of flexibility that can include: centralized or distributed servers; memory-based or disk-based asset storage; dozens or millions of streams; multiple streaming formats (MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WM9); and the ability to scale storage and streaming capacity independently.
