Yahoo Japan steps up mobile content distribution
Yahoo Japan announced it has launched a mobile content distribution service, in which cell phone users can buy games, ring tones, news and other entertainment and information from 59 content providers, Reuters reported.
The move is the latest in a series of new services targeted at the rapidly growing mobile Internet commerce market. In the new service, Yahoo Japan’s revenues come as fees for settling transactions and collecting payments for content providers.
Content providers for the new service include digital content creator Cybird and game maker Taito. Yahoo Japan said it aimed to launch a similar service for personal computer users next year.
