10 Quincy Newspapers stations upgrade digital transmission with help of Harris


Quincy Newspapers are upgrading their digital transmission system with Harris DiamondCD transmitters. The system features LDMOS, solid-state technology and includes a control cabinet and one to five power amplifier cabinets.

Quincy Newspapers has selected the broadcast communications division of Harris to upgrade the digital transmission system of its flagship station, WGEM-TV/DT in Quincy, Ill., and nine other stations.

The other Quincy Newspapers stations are WSJV-TV/DT, Elkhart, Ind., WVVA-TV/DT, Bluefield, W.V., WAOW TV/DT, Wausau, Wisc., WQOW-TV/DT, Eau Claire, Wisc., WYOW-TV/DT, Eagle River, Wisc., WXOW, Lacrosse, Wisc., KTTC-TV/DT, Rochester, Minn., WREX-TV/DT, Rockford, Ill., and WKOW-TV, Madison, Wisc.

WGEM, WSJV, WVVA, WAOW, WQOW, WYOW and WXOW are upgrading their 1.8 kw DHD8 model DiamondCD transmitters to 7.25 kw DHD30 models. Each station also is adding the Harris Apex digital television exciter to its transmitter.

By upgrading their power, the QNI stations are enhancing and augmenting their digital signal coverage areas in preparation for the FCC-scheduled analog phase-out in 2006.
