1080p demand grows among consumers
Unit sales of consumer flat-panel televisions in North America were up 101 percent for the fourth quarter of 2006 compared to the same quarter in 2005, according to Pacific Media Associates.
In December, sales dipped 2 percent from the record level set in November, it said. During December, the average street price of HDTVs increased slightly from the preceding month, said Pacific Media Associates VP Rosemary Abowd.
The company's data shows 1080p models, most of which were LCD models, accounted for about one-third of total unit sales. Six months prior, 1080p accounted for only 5 percent of total HDTV demand among consumers.
