1KTV sports programming on wireless phones to feature real-time scores from STATS
To augment the presentation of sporting events and news, V-Star will begin offering STATS real-time sports scores and information as part of its 1KTV SportsTracker wireless technology.
The 1KTV SportsTracker will use a custom XML feed of real-time scores, box-scores, statistics, leader boards, schedules and standings for several professional and collegiate leagues, including Major League Baseball, the National Association of Basketball, National Football League, National Hockey League, NASCAR, PGA, ATP and NCAA football and men’s basketball.
With the addition of STATS-supplied information SportsTracker will deliver on-demand real-time sports scores and action to cell phone users with 1KTV multimedia sound and images.
STATS collects, stores and delivers real-time and historical information, allowing 1KTV to provide more accurate and richer sports information. V-Star’s 1KTV technology delivers instant, on-demand TV-quality news, information and entertainment programming to Java- and BREW-enabled cell phones. The 1KTV technology currently is available from Sprint PCS, Nextel and AT&T.
Initially, the media used for the sports presentation will be sound, still images and data displays. However, within the next six to nine months, as cell phone receivers with H.263 support begin to appear on the market, highlight clips and post-game interviews will be added to the service. Currently, V-Star is negotiating with several leagues, including MLB, to secure the rights to distribute video footage to cell phone users.
