2005 Digital Cable Ready set sales to reach 3 million, says CEA
Three million Digital Cable Ready (DCR) sets will be sold factory-to-dealer in 2005, according to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). The number builds on the installed base of more than 1 million sold last year.
More than 16 million DTV units have been sold since digital television’s introduction, according to CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro.
Despite the growing sales, Shapiro pointed to a lack of consumer education on the part of broadcasters and cable system operators as an impediment to broader acceptance. He also called on the cable industry to promote Digital Cable Ready sets and the requisite CableCARD.
