'Terminator' Treks to Blu-ray Sales Lead
The high-flying "Star Trek" was knocked out of orbit in its third week in the Blu-ray galaxy (okay, no more space clichés) by a new entry, "Terminator Salvation."
Following in third place was one of the longer titles in the movies in recent years—"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian." As in previous weeks, only one holiday-themed film made it to the Top 10: "Four Christmases" at no. 6.
Blu-ray title sales still skew to young demographics, which may explain why one of the most lauded HD miniseries in recent memory, "Planet Earth" from the BBC, entered the Blu-ray fray at no better than no. 8.
The Top 10 Blu-ray titles for the week ending Dec. 5, according to Rentrak:
- "Terminator Salvation" (Warner Bros.)
- "Star Trek" (Paramount)
- "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" (20th Century Fox)
- "Angels & Demons" (Sony Pictures)
- "Up" (Disney Studios)
- "Four Christmases" (Warner Bros.)
- "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (Disney Pictures)
- "Planet Earth: The Complete Collection" (BBC/Warner Bros.)
- "The Ugly Truth" (Sony Pictures)
- "Fight Club" (20th Century Fox)
