4.8 million European households to receive HD by 2008
By the end of 2008, high definition television will be in about 4.8 million European households, according to a newly released study.
The figure represents a dramatic increase from European HD penetration, which stood at 50,000 households in 2003, according to the report.
The report, “High-definition in Europe” from market watcher Datamonitor, contends that while market acceptance of HD in Europe will progress at a relatively slow pace, content producers and providers, including production companies and broadcasters, must begin investing in the technology required to support the gradual changeover.
The report attributes the slow growth of HD among European consumers to the relatively high price of home equipment.
