60 million subscribe to broadband Internet from cable, telcos, says Leichtman

New research from Leichtman Research Group reveals the 19 largest U.S. cable and telephone providers added 2.1 million net new high-speed Internet subscribers in the third quarter of 2007, down from 2.66 million net new subscribers in the same quarter a year ago.

Combined, the cable and telephone providers account for about 94 percent of the high-speed Internet market. The top broadband providers now account for more than 60 million subscribers, with cable companies having 32.6 million broadband subscribers, and telephone companies having more than 27.5 million subscribers.
