ABC offers HD ‘View’
"The View," ABC's morning, all-girl talk show, will become the first show in the network's daytime lineup to broadcast in HD. ABC currently broadcasts the majority of its prime-time schedule in HD, including comedies, dramas and theatrical movies, as well as the weekday and weekend editions of the popular morning news program “Good Morning America.”
During the past decade, in addition to its regular schedule offerings, ABC has broadcast a number of events in HD, including the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals and the Stanley Cup Finals, as well as the Academy Awards.
ABC was also the first major broadcast network to broadcast in HD with the theatrical presentation of “The Wonderful World of Disney: 101 Dalmatians” on Nov. 1, 1998. ABC also broadcast the first live, regularly-scheduled HD sporting event in primetime, the 1999-2000 season of “Monday Night Football,” and was the first broadcast network to air its prime-time programming in Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound.
The 720p HD broadcasts of “The View” will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
