Abit integrates new digital archive service at CBC
Abit is working with the Cologne Broadcasting Center (CBC) in Germany to control and integrate a new digital archive service to be offered to external organizations looking to digitize and store media. The latest system software provides the capacity to ingest content, securely digitizing tapes based on their catalogue information and route the material to prespecified storage systems.
The Abit Show-it system currently installed at CBC operates parallel ingest streams configured to interface with peripheral systems including the material asset database, VTRs, an LMS, transmission servers and an IBM SAN using ADMIRA archive management software. The center is actively in the process of ingesting more than 130,000 hours of material for RTL Television, VOX and Super RTL, with the ingest process being carried out on both a scheduled and event basis.
