The Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) has scheduled two additional RF safety courses because of the response received for the first course to be held on June 27. The additional courses will be on Wednesday, July 25, and Thursday, Aug. 2, both from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. EDT. The courses will be delivered via Web conference and are designed for broadcast station personnel such as chief and assistant chief engineers, transmitter site engineers, ENG/SNG maintenance personnel and management that need to have an understanding of RF safety issues and regulations. Instructing the courses will be RF safety expert Richard Strickland of RF Safety Solutions.
The course will provide an overview of RF radiation issues for broadcasters, with topics including the biological effects of RF radiation; FCC and OSHA regulations; workplace hazards in relation to transmitter sites, ENG/SNG trucks, remote operations and AM stations; and RF hazard protection equipment.
Each participant will receive a course handout via e-mail prior to the course. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate of completion through the mail from the SBE.
It is recommended that people who take the course have at least a basic knowledge of electronics and understand the concept of frequency.
Anticipating widespread interest in this course, the SBE encourages chapters, broadcast stations or companies to host the course at a suitable training site where local members or employees can be accommodated.
