The FCC now has five commissioners again. Jonathan Adelstein was sworn in December 3rd for a term that expires June 30, 2003.

Adelstein replaces Gloria Tristani, who resigned 14 months ago. Initially, the Republicans stalled Adelstein's nomination in retaliation for the Democrats stalling Bush’s judicial nominations. Adelstein had been a Democratic Party staffer for 15 years. He had been on Tom Daschle's staff since 1995.
The FCC can only have three commissioners from the same party. There are currently three Republican Commissioners; Kathleen Abernathy, Kevin Martin, and Chairman Michael Powell. Adelstein joins Michael Copps as the second Democrat on the commission.
Adelstein also announced appointments of two legal advisors, one for Wireline competition and a second for spectrum and international issues. He also hired an advisor for media issues, a confidential assistant and a staff assistant.
