A&E Network launches live music concert series with Aerosmith’s “You Gotta Move”
A&E Network initiated a series of live music concert specials with Aerosmith's "You Gotta Move." The initial two-hour program, broadcast on June 4, underscores broadcast's increased reliance on pop music to generate viewers, as well as mega-artists' growing emphasis on network cable as a way to promote new music releases and other products. A&E reaches more than 88 million homes.
The show's backstage footage and cinema-verité approach also reflect how DVD techniques are feeding back into broadcast, with "special feature" components built into the linear program — a perfect set-up, as well, to promote the inevitable DVD release of the same program. Cameras followed the band in the recording studio, on the road, inside the rehearsals where the band works up new material and reinvents the old, and load-in with the crew and load-out when the show moves on.
