Akimbo to Use Rhozet Video Transcoding Technology
Harmonic Lightwaves has announced that its Rhozet Carbon Coder video transcoding solution has been selected by Akimbo for automated Web-based video transcoding and packaging. Akimbo, which provides Internet-delivered VOD, manages a library of mainstream and niche encoded video content.
“At Akimbo we need a tool that supports the gamut of formats our content partners deliver to us, and that can quickly output high-quality compressed content ready to publish. With Rhozet’s Carbon API, our engineers were able to easily automate the acquisition of new content, the transcoding, and the hand off to our content delivery network,” said Seth Bennett, director of content operations at Akimbo Systems.
“Carbon Coder’s technical capability is just one of the important aspects of transcoding,” said David Trescot, vice president of the Rhozet business unit at Harmonic. “The ability to address our customers’ specific needs with a customizable solution gives us the upper hand in the market, while enabling our customers to grow their businesses.”
Harmonic’s Rhozet Carbon Coder is a universal transcoding application that facilitates the transfer of media between a variety of platforms, including acquisition, editing, playout, archive, the Internet and mobile devices, said Trescot. Carbon Coder can run as a standalone application or as part of a multi-node, fully automated rendering farm. Carbon Coder provides scalable transcoding for a broad range of business environments, from specialized studios to enterprise-scale installations.
