Alaska Telco Taps Amino IPTV Boxes for HD
Alaska-based Matanuska Telephone Association has chosen two set-top IPTV boxes from Amino Communications as the telco gets set to expand its HD services to the huge and geographically challenging state. (MTA said its network covers a region of about 10,000 sq. miles.)
Amino, based in Cambridge, England, said MTA will deploy its HD single-stream STB (model A130 MPEG-4) and its higher-end box (model A530 HD) with DVR and VOD capabilities, according to UK-based InteractiveTV Today.
Among those populated areas served by the expanded HD service will be Eagle River, Palmer, and Wasilla (yes, that Wasilla — hometown of former governor Sarah Palin).
Besides its IPTV network and its subsequent HD growth, MTA said it currently provides wireless and broadband services to thousands of subs in many parts of Alaska. The firm said it will continue to make a “significant investment” in growing its IPTV service.
