Allbritton Communications Company, which owns and operates stations in seven markets and a 24-hour cable news channel, has launched the next generation in its digital transition at KATV in Little Rock, AK, and KTUL in Tulsa, OK.
Allbritton is streamlining its workflow with a group-wide conversion to tapeless operation with the Video Technics Apella servers and NewsFlow solution. KATV and KTUL are first in line for the transition.
Video Technics’ NewsFlow solution with the Apella Media Server family allows efficient production in a completely shared network environment with low-res proxy creation and associated metadata from ingest, edit, to playout and archive. Once media is ingested into the NewsFlow centralized database, content is instantly available simultaneously from any networked application to browse, edit or play out.
For each station’s NewsFlow solution, Allbritton purchased four Apella LCS systems providing 12 bidirectional channels of ingest or playout, VT Database Engine Cluster with instant failover capability, 3.0TB of RAID 10 networked attached storage and a dedicated VT Media Exchange server (VTMX) for network file transfers of SAT feeds and Pathfire news and syndication content.
Editors perform simple low-resolution, cuts-only editing from their workstations with the VT Proxy Editor and MOS ActiveX plugin. For more high-resolution craft editing, the solution includes VT Final Cut Pro plug-in applications for integration with existing facility software, eight NewsFlow Studio Pro nonlinear editors and four NewsFlow Field Editor notebooks with Adobe Premiere Pro and the VT Adobe Premiere Pro Plug-In for a shared editing environment.
