Analyst group sees strong HDTV sales this holiday season
Demand for high-definition will be high this holiday shopping season, according to NPD Group.
HDTV sales have increased 52 percent in unit volume and 39 percent in dollar volume from January through September this year compared to the same period in 2005, according to NPD Group. Sales of HDTVs during in November and December 2005 topped $2.2 billion with more than 1.4 million units sold. The NPD Group expects 2006 to see continued holiday shopping growth.
According to the industry analyst, lower prices are helping boost HDTV sales. The average price of an HDTV set fell 8 percent year-to-date (January through September) compared to the same time last year.
