ARD Opts for APT Platform
ARD, the consortium of German regional public broadcasters, has adopted the APT WorldNet Oslo as its standard platform for 5.1 audio contribution and distribution among its members.
The ARD choice, which will see 12 WorldNet Oslo units deployed across the country, follows a decision by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to deploy more than 20 WorldNet Oslos across Europe.
"Through early pilot projects, our participation in the EBU working group and on-going discussions with APT, we have been consistently impressed with the performance and flexible operation of the WorldNet Oslo platform," said Michael Carter of the ARD technical centre in Frankfurt am Main.
According to Carter, the ARD based its decision to standardize with the APT units on the results of laboratory tests and the previous experience of ARD member broadcasters.
