Armando Oliu To Keynote GV Expo 2004

Washington, DC--Government Video Technology Expo 2004 has announced Armando Oliu, lead for the Kennedy Space Center’s Pre-Launch Inspection Teams and lead for the Post-Launch Image Analysis Team, as this year’s keynote speaker. During his presentation, "Return to Flight: NASA Image Analysis," Oliu will explore the space agency’s modernization of film and video techniques used to support missions.
The loss last year of the Columbia space shuttle during mission STS-107 remains a tragic moment in American history. To rapidly investigate and potentially prevent disasters such as this, NASA has implemented revolutionary technologies in its multi-million-dollar "Return to Flight" system upgrade. As lead of the support team on this particular mission, Oliu re-reviewed all ascent imagery during the recovery period. Before a shuttle’s launch, he is responsible for leading the Ice/Debris Team in a series of inspections, verifying the space shuttle vehicle and pad systems are safe for launch. Oliu’s involvement in post-launch activities includes leading the team that is responsible for reviewing and analyzing all space shuttle ascent imagery.
Oliu has held several engineering and leadership positions in his 16 years with NASA. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami in 1988.
"NASA continues to raise the bar with its use of video technology," said Mark J. Pescatore, executive conference chair and editor of Government Video magazine. "This keynote address promises to provide an exciting inside look at the space shuttle program."
The upgrade has brought cutting-edge techniques to the program, including high definition and digital imaging capabilities. With a system similar to those used by production teams in entertainment and government media, Oliu’s presentation is a must-see for all attendees.
This special keynote presentation will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Washington DC Convention Center, following the 4th Annual Star Awards Ceremony. Admission to both events is free for all GV Expo attendees.
