Ascent Completes Digital Media Data Center
Ascent Media Group has completed its 100,000 square-foot Digital Media Data Center, a digital post production network and distribution facility based in Burbank, Calif.
The $17 million project took five years of planning and consolidates post production, media management and syndication services under a single roof, linked via a secure digital production network.
Ken Williams, president and CEO, Ascent Media Group said the state-of-the-art facility supports its clients by managing a full range of file formats and represents the future of the industry by bridging workflows that adapt seamlessly to the requirements of physical and file-based content.
The facility's services include editing, mastering, 4K digital intermediate, audio and video restoration, quality control, audio mixing, digital conversion, sub-titling and closed captioning. Internal production processes are facilitated by Ascent's network, ProdNet.
ProdNet can process data 10 times faster than the company's network could before; it processes at 1.2 terabits per second and stores up to 368 hours of uncompressed high-definition content at any given time. ProdNet includes advanced physical and file based security measures, which features the use of digital fingerprinting.
The technology that gives ProdNet the ability to run several jobs concurrently is powered by Silicon Graphics hardware and software. It uses SGI CXFS-based metadata servers and SGI InfiniteStorage system.
