Ascent Media, The Chicago Switch Launch New Fiber Link
Ascent Media and The Chicago Switch LLC, a video switching facility in Chicago, have completed a high-capacity, bidirectional fiber link between The Chicago Switch and Ascent Media’s Minneapolis uplink facility. The companies said this new service for broadcasters and corporate video users increases distribution and reception capabilities.
The link provides users of The Chicago Switch with the single-source ability to distribute video throughout the world, using Ascent Media’s existing network facilities, as well as an alternative to existing uplink facilities. Ascent Media already has commenced services via the new link.
John Palmer, director of engineering and operations for the Midwest region at Ascent Media Network Services said, “Our new fiber connection broadens our customer base by offering a unified solution to local and global needs, and provides users of video distribution services with a much-needed alternative.”
The Chicago Switch, located in the John Hancock Center, serves local and national broadcast and cable networks, common carriers, post-production houses and other media outlets. Ascent Media provides global distribution from a single source through direct fiber connectivity with London and Singapore.
