ATF Lab Studies Arson with Omneon Spectrum

The ATF Fire Research Lab--part of the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Bureau--is using the Omneon Spectrum to analyze fires in criminal investigations.

The lab--at the National Laboratory Center in Beltsville, Md.--has an eight-channel Omneon system that captures video data during small and full-scale arson reconstruction. Engineers can build structures the size of a two-story house to run and monitor all types of fire scenarios. Using the Omneon Spectrum server for video ingest, users record live tests and begin reviewing content before the burn is finished.

The server accommodates DV and DVCPro footage and enables the facility to work with DVCPro HD content in the future. To edit content for presenting in court, engineers use Final Cut Pro HD and create a DVD as a final product.
