ATF Seeks Information on TV Station Fire
PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS: The feds are seeking assistance in finding out who saw a TV station fire in this southeastern Texas community. The local field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two witnesses seen near the old KBTV-TV studio when the facility was destroyed by a fire Feb. 2. KBTV is the local Fox affiliate owned by Nexstar.
The fire remains under investigation, but was determined by investigators to have been arson. The Port Arthur News reported in February that KBTV no longer used the facility as a studio, but its weather radar and other station equipment was in the building. No personnel were at the facility at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The Beaumont Enterprise said yesterday that the building was in the process of being demolished.
The ATF has released sketches of the witnesses seen near the fire. Anyone with information about the individuals or the fire is asked to contact the Beaumont ATF office at 409-981-6670 or the Port Arthur Fire Department at 409-983-8737 .
