ATI to Acquire Terayon Assets
ATI Technologies has inked a deal with Terayon Communication Systems for $14 million in cash. The 3D graphics and digital media technology provider is buying the cable modem silicon intellectual property from Terayon, based in Santa Clara, Calif.
As part of the deal, approximately 25 employees from the Terayon design team will work for ATI.
The Ontario-based company has shipped more than 5 million digital TV chips in 2004 to Sony, JVC, Panasonic, Thomson and other leading consumer electronic companies.
Additionally, ATI Theater and NXT demodulators have 85 percent market share and its Xilleon MPEG decoders have 40 percent market share in the ATSC/DCR areas, according to ATI.
