ATIS, MSF announce joint IPTV standards tests

ATIS and the MultiService Forum (MSF) plan to join forces for the biennial Global MSF Interoperability (GMI) event Oct. 20-31 to put key IPTV building blocks for authentication and initialization to the test, ATIS said last month.

The ATIS-MSF partnership will combine ATIS’ IPTV standards development with the MSF’s success at validating key Next Generation Network (NGN) concepts. The new partnership is intended to validate the efforts of the ATIS IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF) in the areas of IPTV requirements, standards and specifications.

Among the vendors signed up to participate are Acme Packet, Codenomicon, Empirix, Huawei, NEC, Nokia-Siemens Networks, Nortel, OSI, Starent, Teles and ZTE.

The main emphasis at GMI 2008 will be to demonstrate that emerging services, such as IPTV, can leverage IMS as an enabling infrastructure.

During GMI 2008, Verizon, NCS and UNH-IOL in the United States will work with BT/Vodafone in Europe and China Mobile in Asia to create a real-world global network to verify the interoperability of critical NGN elements. GMI 2008 will include test laboratories, enhanced test scenarios and a wider range of service capabilities, including end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS), location management and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), as well as IPTV.
