ATSC names new director of communications
The Advanced Television Systems (ATSC) has hired Lisa Hester as their new director of communications.
Hester will be responsible for seminars, professional development and corporate communications for the ATSC and its members, which include the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite and semiconductor industries.
The ATSC is an international membership organization that establishes voluntary technical standards for digital television.
ATSC Digital TV standards include HDTV, SDTV, data broadcasting, multichannel surround-sound audio, and satellite direct-to-home broadcasting. As detailed in the Development of the ATSC Digital Television Standard, on December 24, 1996, the FCC adopted the major elements of the ATSC Digital Television Standard (A/53) for the nation's next-generation of broadcast television. In addition, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, S. Korea and Taiwan have adopted the ATSC DTV standard for digital terrestrial broadcasts.
