ATSC offers guidance for DTV receiver performance
The Advanced Television Systems Committee has approved a Recommended Practice that establishes voluntary guidelines for broadcast digital television receiver performance. Broadcasters have been lobbying for this for the past few years to ensure reliable DTV signal reception using the 8-VSB modulation scheme approved by the ATSC.
The new Recommended Practice provides performance guidelines for receiver sensitivity, multiple signal overload, phase noise, selectivity and multipath. The document suggests the use of the antenna control interface specified by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA-909), which facilitates automatic control of antenna parameters. It also provides guidelines for implementation of received signal quality indicators for use by consumers.
The Receiver Performance Guideline Recommended Practice A/74 is now available.
