ATSC unveils new voluntary DTV receiver performance standard

The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) has approved a Recommended Practice establishing voluntary guidelines for DTV receiver performance.

The guidelines are the result of a collaborative effort among broadcasters, consumer electronics manufacturers and semiconductor manufacturers. The completion of the guidelines meets the ATSC commitment to the FCC, which suggested the industry develop voluntary DTV receiver performance guidelines.

The new Recommended Practice provides performance guidelines for receiver sensitivity, multiple signal overload, phase noise, selectivity and multipath. The document suggests the use of the antenna control interface specified by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA-909), which facilitates automatic control of antenna parameters. It also provides guidelines for implementation of received signal quality indicators for use by consumers.
